As a three-time World E1 Enduro Championship runner-up Simone Albergoni is without doubt Italy’s number one current performer in the discipline and one of the spearheads of the UFO Course Yamaha team.
With 25 podiums and two vice championships in the last two seasons Albergoni’s status is rightfully deserved.
He finished in the top three thirteen times during 2006 with two E1 class victories. The quiet Italian, who has been a regular on the world scene since 2004, showed once again that when it comes to talent, determination and skill he certainly isn’t lacking.
The 26 year old from Spirano pushed eventual Enduro 1 World Champion Ivan Cervantes harder than any other rider during 2006 and then had another tough fight with Enduro legend Juha Salminen in 2007.
The last campaign was bittersweet for Italy’s number one enduro rider. Again his consistency was a powerful weapon but it was not enough to overhaul his Finnish rival. He claimed another 12 podium results, including victory on day two of the penultimate round of the championship in Slovakia. Albergoni put a disappointing start to the season behind him to end ‘07 not only as Yamaha’s top performer in the E1class of the WEC but also as the rider that will start 2008 with a very real chance of claiming his first ever title.
