Andrea Dovizioso arrives in the Monster Yamaha Tech3 MotoGP Team this season to partner British rider Cal Crutchlow. The hugely talented Italian, a regular podium scorer, is entering his fifth season in MotoGP. Dovizioso prepares to kick off 2012 after a strong 2011 season, consistently fighting at the front of the pack to take seven podium finishes and wrapping up the year in third position with 228 Championship points.
In 2010 he scored a total of 7 podium finishes and his first MotoGP pole position at Motegi, fighting for victory to the final lap with Casey Stoner. The following week, Dovizioso produced a repeat performance with a hard-fought second-place result in the Malaysian GP, crossing the finish line just two tenths of a second behind Valentino Rossi. The season end saw him finish 5th in the Championship
Dovizioso’s first MotoGP premier class season was 2008. He was fourth in his first race and took his maiden MotoGP podium in Malaysia. The young Italian narrowly missed out on the Rookie of the Year title by only 16 points to Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo. The following season saw him work hard to be rewarded with his first victory in the MotoGP class at Donington Park, finishing 2009 in sixth position.
2002 was his debut year in Grand Prix racing in the 125cc class. In 2004 he took the 125 World Championship then spent three years disputing the 250cc title. He achieved one third place and two runner-up spots in the standings. In 2008 he moved up to the premier class with a satellite team.
In 2001 he raced in the Italian Championship (finishing 4th), made his Grand Prix debut at Mugello as a wildcard, and won the European 125cc Championship. This success opened the door to the World Championships. His time in 250cc - from 2005 to 2007 earned him four victories, 26 podiums, four pole positions and he was twice runner-up in the World Championship behind Lorenzo (2006, 2007).
