What is Superstock?

The FIM Superstock 1000 Cup is one of three championships that support the Superbike World Championship.

The bikes, usually 1000cc four cylinders, like Yamaha’s YZF-R1 , are essentially stock bikes. Modifications are limited to removing the road gear (lights, horn, side stand etc) and replacing the standard bodywork with pattern race items and changing small items like the foot rests and handlebars to meet the rider’s preference. The rear shock and front fork internals may be changed for aftermarket items, but otherwise the chassis must remain standard. Engine tuning is limited to changing the exhaust for a race item. Tyres must remain of a treaded type, although they are developed especially for racing.

Superstock racing is one of the most popular classes worldwide. It may be one of the cheapest ways of going racing but these production bikes are putting out more power than a factory superbike of a few years ago.

The cup takes place at all European rounds of the championship and has been designed to provide a stepping stone into world superbike. An age limit has been introduced, with the series open to riders aged between 18 and 24. Races take place on the morning of the superbike meeting and are a short sprint of around 60km.
