Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team’s Barcia and Ferris Ready to Kick Off the 2019 Pro Motocross Season

Cypress, CA – January 16, 2019 – The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team looks to hit the ground running at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships season opener at the Hangtown Motocross Classic, in Rancho Cordova, California, on May 18.

The 12-round schedule spans coast to coast and boasts some of the sport’s revered venues like Budd’s Creek, Unadilla and Washougal. New for 2019 is a return to Pala, California, at Fox Raceway for a Memorial Day weekend Celebration on May 25 and the sport’s return to the southeast at the all-new WW Ranch Motocross Park in Jacksonville, Florida on June 22.

Spearheading the team’s campaign in the 450MX class is Justin Barcia aboard the factory-prepped YZ450F. A reenergized Barcia looks to pick up where he left off at last season’s Pro Motocross finale at Ironman – on top of the box.

Making his debut with the factory team this weekend is three-time Australian Motocross Champion Dean Ferris who is standing in for Aaron Plessinger as he continues to recover from his injury from the Daytona Supercross. Ferris is eager to build on his success in Australia and make his mark in the competitive U.S. National Championship.

The much-anticipated Hangtown Motocross Classic season opener gets underway with practice starting at 8:00 a.m. PT.

I’m definitely getting excited for the outdoors. I’ve been out in California for a few weeks now doing a little testing and getting back to riding after hurting both my wrists. I’m slowly but surely getting faster and stronger by the day. For me, I’m just taking it week by week and doing the best I can with the amount of time I’ve had. I have the goal to stay consistent, finish all the races, and at the end of the series hopefully be in a really good spot.“We had one win in supercross and after that it was a little difficult. We want to get some wins and lots of podiums and be strong; keep it on two wheels and have fun. That’s the main thing I think this year, just try to have as much fun as we can outdoors. Last year we ended it with a win, so obviously we’d like to have more than one win. It was a good season last year, but definitely expecting a little bit more for me and the team.

I’m really stoked to get this opportunity with Monster Energy Yamaha. It’s been a long eight months trying to secure a deal here in the U.S. since I finished up in Australia. To pull it off is a dream come true. It’s also something I’ve been working towards for the last 10 years, to do the AMA outdoors and now it’s finally happening. I’m really looking forward to the whole season and really looking forward this weekend in Hangtown and getting the ball rolling.“I have to give a huge thank you to everyone who got me to this point and I’ll be working as hard as I can to make everyone proud.
