Completely healed and excited to start a new season, Plessinger returns in 2020 aboard his Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing YZ450F. “2019 was not the season I had imagined for my rookie season in the 450 class. Supercoss was going pretty well, as I learned the techniques to be competitive in the class. Just after my best result of a 4th in Atlanta, I was injured in the main event at the Daytona Supercross. I broke my heel and it took much longer to get back on the bike, yet along training. I missed a lot of races, and when I did come back for the 450MX championship, I had used each round to gain my speed as well as my conditioning. I am now all healed up and off-season testing with the new YZ450F has been awesome, the team and I are excited for the start of a new season”. – Aaron Plessinger
It was no surprise that Plessinger was promoted to the Monster Energy Factory Racing Team in 2019 where he earned several top ten finishes in the opening rounds of FIM/AMA Monster Energy Supercross, with a career best 4th at the Atlanta SX before a subsequent injury sidelined him mid-season. Unfortunately, this injury lingered into the start of the AMA 450MX outdoor motocross season causing him to miss the first five rounds. In post season Plessinger finished 8th at the 2019 Monster Energy Cup Supercross race in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2018 was a magical season for Plessinger, taking home not one but two championship titles. The 250SX West Championship and AMA 250MX Championship. Even with four wins the Supercross championship came down to the wire, with Plessinger getting the upper hand and earning his 1st 250SX title. Aaron ran away with the 250MX motocross crown with ultimately six wins and a 110-point lead to close out the year. It was a career first on both accounts and a standout season for the 22-year-old from Ohio.
2016 and 2017 were both years of steady progress. In 2016 Plessinger won a Supercross round and took third in the 250SX East Championship. Plessinger also improved his results in motocross where he finished top-five in the 2016 AMA 250MX standings. Plessinger moved to the 250SX West Championship in 2017 and took another win, but ultimately ended the year third in 250SX standings and finished fourth overall in the AMA 250MX series.
Originally Aaron Plessinger had his eyes set on off-road racing, but moving to the Supercross/Motocross side of things turned out to be right up his alley. In 2014, he earned multiple amateur championships and moved on to the professional ranks in 2015, ending the season fifth in 250SX East and sixth in AMA 250MX.
