McElrath got the night off to a good start with a dominant victory in his Heat race, leading from start to finish and going into the Main Event with the number-one gate pick. Unfortunately, the North Carolinian was unable to repeat his holeshot and make a break from the field. In the thick of the battle inside the top-five, he and another rider made contact and both riders went down. He rejoined the race in eighth and quickly made back positions into fifth. In his attempt to chase down the leaders, he had another tip over and had to settle for the top-five finish.
McElrath holds onto the runner-up spot in the standings, trailing the defending 250SX East Champion by 10 points. He and the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team look to regroup and head north next weekend to the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, for Round 11 of the 2020 season on Saturday, March 14.
