Barcia Gets Top-Five Result at Indy in Supercross Return
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Justin Barcia returned from a two-race hiatus to carry the flag for the bLU cRU at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana tonight. In front of a packed house of raucous Midwestern fans, Barcia ran a smart race to bring his YZ450F to fifth place on the night.
With his Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing teammate out of action while he recovers from a heel injury sustained at the Daytona Supercross, Barcia worked himself back up to speed quickly during practice and qualifying. He then went on to notch a solid, fifth-place result in his heat in spite of getting off the gate late.
In the main event, Barcia got a decent start in sixth and moved up to fifth in short fashion, running consistent laps to maintain a top-five result all the way to the end.
Barcia and his Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team will now head back west for round 11 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington, Saturday, March 23.
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team Manager
“What a solid night of racing. It was great to have Justin back returning to action on his number 51 YZ450F. He was a little rusty in practice, but throughout the night he got better and better and saved the best for the main event. He got off to a solid start and rode some consistent laps. He held up to the pressure for the entire race, early on from a couple competitors and then in the final stages he had his hands full, but he kept it on two wheels. It’s great to see him back with a solid finish. He’s had a tough season so far, the past couple of weeks especially, but we’re going in the right direction and looking forward to Seattle next weekend.”

“After having a tough couple of weeks, months really, since winning Anaheim, it’s been difficult. Then my injury was pretty huge to me, actually, so for me I thought it was going to be difficult to come back from it. The basic thing for me was just to get comfortable and get back in the zone and I progressed all day. I don’t like saying I surprised myself, but I kind of surprised myself tonight. I stayed pretty calm all day, patient. I didn’t really let being off the pace a little bit in practice frustrate me, I just stayed focused, used my positive thinking and good mentality and it was a good race. It was a solid race for the first race back. We definitely want to keep progressing from here and get back on the podium. We’ll take a fifth and move on to next weekend.”
