Thibault Bénistant Crowned EMX125 Champion in Assen
MJC Yamaha Official EMX125's Thibault Benistant clinched the 2018 EMX125 Championship title with one race to spare at the eighth and final round of the EMX125 Championship that is taking place at the Dutch TT Circuit in Assen, The Netherlands, this weekend.
Benistant has been the most consistent rider fronting the field this season. The sixteen year-old Frenchman has taken his GYTR kitted YZ125 to three race wins, two podium finishes, and has finished inside the top five in the overall classification at every round of the championship thus far.
Following a top-five qualification at the 'Cathedral of Speed' in Assen this morning, the talented teenager bounced back from a poor start in the penultimate race and a small crash on the final lap to score 1-point for twentieth place, which was enough to secure the title. He now heads into the final race of the season tomorrow free from the pressure to score points and excited to end the season on a high.
2018 EMX125 Champion
"It is an amazing feeling. Today was a little bit difficult with the pressure. I crashed in Timed Practice this morning and my race was far from perfect. It was very difficult to come back from a bad start and a crash on the final lap, but I managed to score 1-point which was enough for the title. I am very happy."
