Van de Ven & Papenmeier Secure Silver & Bronze Medals in 2019 WMX World Championship

Van de Ven & Papenmeier Secure Silver & Bronze Medals in 2019 WMX World Championship

No Fear Yamaha WMX's Nancy van de Ven finished as the runner-up in the 2019 WMX World Championship after landing on the third step of the podium at the fifth and final round in Afyon, Turkey. Fellow YZ250F star Larissa Papenmeier battled illness at the final round. She salvaged enough points for seventh overall, and left Turkey as the 2019 WMX World Championship bronze medalist.

The fight to be WMX vice World Champion went right down to the wire in 2019. YZ250F mounted riders Nancy van de Ven and Larissa Papenmeier were never separated by more than 3-points throughout the five-round series as they went bar-to-bar for second position.

Going into the final round in Afyon, Turkey, Papenmeier had a slender 3-point advantage over van de Ven but ended up dropping back to third after falling in the opening race where she only recovered for eighth. Van de Ven put in two fantastic performances and finished an unchallenged third position in both races, which was enough to secure a fifth consecutive podium finish and the silver medal in the Championship.

Papenmeier was almost unable to line-up for the final race of the season due to an illness she picked up on the way to Turkey. Determined to finish the year with a medal, the '423' gritted her teeth and managed to round out the top-five and clinch third position in the championship.

2nd WMX World Championship

Second overall in the championship but Courtney was really good, and she deserves this championship. I had to fight to get third on the podium and second in the championship. Overall it was a good year and I want to thank my team and sponsors and my family.

3rd WMX World Championship

I had a tough weekend. I started getting sick and I was at the medical center for a long time, I wasn't sure I could ride. I finished eight and crashed again and I wasn't sure I could race. For sure I am not feeling good now, but congratulations to Courtney and let's see what happens next year. I want to thank the team, my family and my fans. I want to ride MX2 class in China next week, so I hope I am well enough.
