Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp made the most of the available track time at today‘s Silverstone Moto2 & Moto3 Official Test to prepare for the 11 remaining 2023 Moto2 race weekends. Manuel Gonzalez showed that his great performance yesterday in the Monster Energy British Grand Prix wasn‘t a fluke: he topped FP1 and FP2 and took second place in FP3, finishing second in the overall rankings. Kohta Nozane improved his feeling on the bike during the Silverstone Test and ended in 15th place in the combined classification.
Gonzalez needed little time to get back into the swing of things and completed the first session with a best lap of 2‘05.230s, which earned him first place by 0.260s. With the conditions staying dry, the Spaniard was in his element and clocked a 2‘05.016s to also take top billing in the FP2 rankings, this time by 0.069s. Manugasss was keen to make it a hat-trick and soon dropped under the 2‘05s mark in the last session. His 2'04.911s lap held him in first place for the majority of FP3 until the final stages, when he was pushed to second place by a margin of just 0.017s. The number-18 rider couldn‘t respond due to a small crash at the end of FP3, but he was okay. Gonzalez finished second in the combined timesheets. He completed 52 laps in total today and is feeling confident that he has the pace to challenge at the front in the second half of the Moto2 season.
Teammate Nozane had completed his first 2023 Moto2 race weekend yesterday after sustaining a back injury in the first round that had kept him from competing until the British GP. The number-5 rider was keen to use the official test at the Silverstone track to make more kilometres aboard his bike. Thanks to the dry track conditions, he was able to stay out until the very end of the final practice session and got 58 laps in over the entire day. His best times were a 2‘08.382s in FP1, a 2‘08.482s in FP2, and a 2‘07.537s in FP3. He ultimately finished 15th in the overall timesheets.
Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp will be back in action in two weeks‘ time, when they start Round 10, the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich, held in Spielberg, Austria.
