Positive Top-10 Start to the French GP for Gonzalez

Positive Top-10 Start to the French GP for Gonzalez

Today, Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp‘s Manuel Gonzalez confirmed that the steps taken at the Jerez Test a fortnight ago were in the right direction. He used the two 40-minute Friday Moto2 free practice sessions to get into a groove and ended the day in 10th place in the combined timesheets.

Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp rallied to help Manuel Gonzalez, the sole rider for the team at the Grand Prix de France, to make a strong start to Round 5 of the 2023 Moto2 World Championship. Gonzalez had a good feeling in the Friday sessions and ended the day in tenth place in the combined practice results.

Gonzalez aimed to use P1 to confirm the improvements made during the Moto2 Official Jerez Test held on the Tuesday after the Spanish GP. He was impatient to start riding and soon proved the team is on the right track by topping the session early on. He then focused on the bike‘s set-up before speeding up at the end again with a 1‘36.989s best time, set on lap 16/19, to finish the practice in sixth place.

Manugasss showed his strong work ethic in the afternoon. He put in 21 laps as he worked on finding a good race rhythm. He left it until the final stages, when the chequered flag had already come out, to set his fastest time, a 1‘36.929s. It earned him tenth place in the P2 and the combined timesheets.

"It‘s been a positive Friday for me here at the French GP. I felt pretty good with the bike. I think we worked well today, following a good strategy. We tried the race setting, and I was confident in the race simulation. At the end of P2, I didn‘t have enough time to try a time attack, but I‘m ready for Saturday‘s qualifying, and we will continue like this tomorrow."

"We started the weekend in a very positive way. I think that today has been the best Friday of the year for Manu. He‘s been really focused and strong. He worked well with the team, and I‘m very satisfied. During the second practice, we tried a long run to understand the consumption of the tyres, and the pace was good. We need to keep going like this tomorrow."
