Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp‘s Manuel Gonzalez was unlucky to encounter technical issues at the start of today‘s Moto2 Q2 session. Despite the setback, he rallied to ninth on the grid for tomorrow‘s Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich. Kohta Nozane continued his learning process at the Spielberg track today. He took part in the Q1 session this afternoon and took 27th place in the qualifying classifications.
Gonzalez had hoped to go all out in Q2, but he had to return straight to the box after his out lap to make some adjustments to his bike. It cost him a big chunk of time. He had about five minutes left on the clock as he started his time attack. A 1‘34.857s on lap 3 moved him up to seventh place. He had time for two further tries, but the number 18 didn‘t find an improvement and ended the session in ninth place.
Nozane used this morning‘s P3 session to make more kilometres at the Spielberg track and set his first lap under the 1‘36s mark. But he struggled to match his morning performance level during the afternoon‘s 15-minute Q1 session. Though he did gradually improve his lap time to a 1‘36.234s, set on lap 4, he decided to make a quick pit stop after five laps. It led to a further time improvement on his final attempt. A 1‘35.919s, set on lap 8/8, put him in 27th place on the grid for tomorrow‘s Austrian GP.
