Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team Anticipate Tough Austrian GP Starting From P26 & P28

Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team‘s Manuel Gonzalez and Keminth Kubo took part in today‘s Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich Moto2 Q1 session. They will start the race from P26 and P28 respectively.

The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team put in a day of hard work at the Spielberg Circuit in Austria today. Manuel Gonzalez tried various settings but was unable to graduate from the Q1 session to Q2 and will start tomorrow‘s Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich Moto2 race from P26. Keminth Kubo continues his learning process, getting in as many laps as possible. The Thai rider finished in 28th place in the overall qualifying results.

Gonzalez used the morning practice session to find a setting that suits the special lay-out of the Spielberg track. He made a step compared to yesterday but had to take part in the Q1 session. The Spaniard again tried a new setting solution in qualifying, but it wasn‘t to his liking. He completed seven laps and posted a best time of 1‘35.205s, set on lap 3. It puts him in 26th place on tomorrow‘s grid.

Kubo had spent the second day of the Austrian GP further studying the lines, riding styles, and trying to improve braking. He had to take part in Q1 and was pushing, putting his findings to the test. He saved the best for last when he clocked a 1‘35.301s on lap 8/8. He will start tomorrow‘s race from P28.

Gelete Nieto

Sports Director

"Manu improved his lap time compared to yesterday, but he was not feeling good with the bike. We tried a lot of different settings, but nothing worked. We are analysing all the data, and we will work on it, trying to find the right direction for tomorrow‘s race. Kubo is working a lot in the garage. His lap time is better than yesterday. He is still far from the middle group, but he‘s studying a lot."

"We went in the wrong direction today. In FP3, we improved compared to yesterday, and I had positive feelings, but I was struggling too much with the bike. In Q1, we tried something similar to Silverstone, but the lap times were very slow. This is a particular track, and we need to find something big to change things around for tomorrow. I will do my best in tomorrow‘s race."

"In FP3, I tried to change my riding style trying to fix the problems we had yesterday. It helped, and I could improve my lap time. I worked a lot with my crew chief, and we had a new set-up for the qualifying. I felt better on my bike, and I could perform better. We found an interesting thing to adjust on the bike during this session, and we will use it for tomorrow‘s race."
