The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team commenced their Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland challenge today. Manuel Gonzalez had a strong morning session, but tweaks made for the afternoon didn‘t pay off. Keminth Kubo suffered a high-speed crash in FP1 and used FP2 to rebuild his confidence. The pair ended the Friday in 18th and 29th in the combined timesheets.
Gonzalez‘s aim for the first two days of the German GP weekend is to achieve a place in Q2, and he made sure he was on the right track in the morning practice session. He knew the track already a little but also relied on his ability to quickly adapt to circuits to post a best time of 1‘25.342s on lap 15/23. It earned him 13th place in the timesheets.
The Spaniard was keen to defend his position in the afternoon but needed a bit of time to improve on his fastest morning lap. He did it on his third and final run with a 1‘25.104s set on lap 16/18 to end FP2 in 17th place and take 18th in the combined Friday results.
Kubo made his Moto2 return at the tricky Sachsenring this morning. It‘s a new circuit for the Thai rider, who had planned on doing as many laps as possible. However, a high-speed crash made him lose valuable track time. Nevertheless, he had set a fastest time of 1‘26.893s on lap 13/14 for 27th place.
The number-81 rider used FP2 to build up his confidence on the bike again. Finding an improvement of more than 0.3s, he clocked a 1‘26.554s best time on lap 7/19. It put him in 29th place in the FP2 and the combined FP results.
