Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team Start 2022 Season Finale from P14 & P28

Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team’s Manuel Gonzalez made a strong comeback on the second day of the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana. After a difficult Day 1, he found speed on Day 2 and put it to good use, cruising through Q1 to secure 14th place in Q2. Keminth Kubo didn't have the feeling he was looking for but still found over 0.7s on the second day at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. He will start his final race with the team from 28th position on the grid.

Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team’s Manuel Gonzalez and Keminth Kubo went all out in the final qualifying sessions of their and the team’s debut season in the Moto2 World Championship class. The duo secured P14 and P28 on the grid for tomorrow’s Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Gonzalez had to go through Q1 but showed that he had the pace and determination to get the job done. He finished the session strong with a 1'34.946s, posted on lap 8/9, to take third place, 0.188s from first.

The local rider’s confidence was boosted by his Q1 performance. It spurred him on to push even harder in the Q2 session. He soon settled into seventh place with a 1’34.928s set on lap 3/8. Unable to improve further, he ended the session in 14th place in the qualifying results and is feeling keen to make a challenge for the top 10 again tomorrow.

Kubo had an extra fire burning within him today at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. Gearing up for his final race with the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team, the Moto2 rookie was determined to make it a memorable occasion. Though he’s not a big fan of the Valencian circuit and didn't have a good feeling on the bike, he was pushing hard to get a good starting position for tomorrow. He set a 1'35.823s on his eighth and last lap for 14th place in the Q1 results, which puts him in 28th place on the grid for the final GP of the 2022 Moto2 season.

Sports Director

"I’m quite satisfied about Manu’s result. He did a 1’34.9s, and that’s a time we couldn’t even dream about yesterday. We worked a lot on the bike, and we could see the result. Tomorrow’s race will be difficult, but I know that Manu will do his maximum. We expected a better lap time from Kubo’s qualifying, but it was the same as in FP3. He was struggling with the bike, he didn’t like it, so now he’s working with the team to find something to change for tomorrow. I wish he could enjoy his last race with us."

"P14 is not a bad position after the feeling I had yesterday. We improved a lot also from FP3 and entering Q2 coming from Q1 is always positive. We still need to find a small detail for the race, because I struggle when the tyres are used. I will push to finish the season in the best way possible."

"We improved the lap time at the beginning of the qualifying. We decided to change the tyres, so I made a stop halfway through the session, but it didn't work as we expected... I'm disappointed, but sometimes it's like this. I don't have a good position for tomorrow, but we'll need to focus on the race."
