Binder and Dovizioso Open for Unique German GP Challenge

Binder and Dovizioso Open for Unique German GP Challenge

Two to go ahead of the summer break; Sachsenring calls WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team for round 10.

This weekend will see another classic returning with full grandstands and passionate fans. The Sachsenring in Germany will host round 10 of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship season and with its unique layout featuring 10 left and three right corners and a total of just 3.7 kilometers length, usually provides some surprises.

With his second best premier class result in the pocket, Darryn Binder arrives in Germany highly motivated to do equally well. He scored 12th last time out at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and could make use of a fruitful day of testing following the Catalan Grand Prix together with his WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team. He arrives at the shortest circuit of the MotoGP calendar second in the rookies standings.

On the other hand, Andrea Dovizioso also managed to step forward throughout the ninth round in Catalunya, but was unlucky in the race. Yet, he is interested in what the completely different track in Saxony might hold for him. The Italian aims to finally turn around his rather tricky season at the second-last stop ahead of the summer break this weekend, which kicks off in summerly conditions this Friday at 09.55 local time with Free Practice one.

“I’m really excited to be heading to Sachsenring after the last two positive races for me. I’m feeling super motivated and I can’t wait to get there. I think it’s a bit of a different track to what we’ve been at so far this year, so I’m very curious to see how I can go on a track like that riding the Yamaha YZR-M1.”

“The Sachsenring is a very different track to what we are used to ride. Last year, Yamaha was struggling a bit at this circuit, so I don’t know what we can expect there. Anyway, during the test last time out in Barcelona, I improved my feeling on the brakes a bit, so let’s see if that can help us this weekend.”

“We are looking forward to round 10 and 11, having another back to back round in Sachsenring, Germany and Assen, Netherlands at unique, iconic circuits. Of course, we are hoping for both riders to try and do well, especially Darryn, who had two amazing races so far in Mugello and Barcelona. We will again assess the situation with Andrea and do our best to try and turn his season around with these two races left ahead of the long summer break. This is also the time, where we need to keep both riders extremely motivated amidst the speculation of riders movement for next year. But it’s very important for the team to fully support both, Darryn and Andrea, concentrate, keep on doing well, score points and next year will sort itself out, especially during the five weeks summer break.”

“The Sachsenring is a very small, very special race track and I think when Marc (Marquez) is not there, chances are big, that we’ll see a new winner this weekend there. Of course, for us it will be interesting to see what the guys are able to see in a small track like that, because our bikes are especially strong in terms of maneuverability and handling. Saying that, the Yamaha has never outperformed itself at Sachsenring. They always struggled a little bit. There are many left hand side corners, which create a lot of tyre temperature and a lot of wear, so this has never been one of our favorites, but it looks like Darryn is in good form and also Andrea found a better way to Yamaha after the test, so let’s go there and try to find the best position and possible way for the team to step ahead and finish the first half of the season on a high note.”
