Binder and Dovizioso Target to End First Half of 2022 on a High Note

Binder and Dovizioso Target to End First Half of 2022 on a High Note

WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team heads highly motivated to the Cathedral of Speed ahead of the summer break.

Just a few days after the German Grand Prix, the entire MotoGP World Championship is already setting up again at the historical TT Circuit in Assen for the 11th round of the 2022 season. This weekend will also be the final one ahead of the well-deserved summer break after a busy first part of the season.

Premier class rookie Darryn Binder made some impressive steps forward throughout the last three rounds in Italy, Catalunya and Germany and made some huge progress throughout the weekends, getting to grips with new tracks aboard his Yamaha YZR-M1 machine and finding the connection to the top. This weekend, the South African is happy to return to a circuit he usually went well on and aims to continue his growth, although his chase in Germany saw an unfortunately early end.

On the other side of the WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team garage, Andrea Dovizioso struggled this year so far, but found some small improvements in order to ameliorate his sensations. After he managed to do a decent 30 laps race at Sachsenring and bring home two World Championship points, the Italian is now eager to resume his move forward to go into the summer break with a good feeling.

As usual, the weekend in the Netherlands kicks off with Free Practice one for the MotoGP class at 09:55 local time this Friday, followed by FP2 at 14:10 local time.

“I’m feeling really good going into Assen. I’ve been making some really decent steps forward, but one point I need to focus on now is the Qualifying. I need to qualify better to help myself in the race. Going into Assen that will be my main goal to qualify better. It’s also a place that I really, really enjoy riding and it seems to be a Yamaha track. I’m looking to go into the summer break with a good result in my pocket.”

“Assen was historically not the best track for me, but I think and I hope the Yamaha YZR-M1 will work well there. Coming there from Germany, I expect definitely more at the TT Circuit than I expected in Sachsenring. My goal before the summer break is to finish in a better position than we achieved so far.”

“I’m sure Assen is a track, that both riders are looking forward to. We hope that Andrea feels better from last weekend and is ready to continue his progression, having a good pace and scoring some points ahead of the summer break would be great. For Darryn, it was another learning curve for him. He was underway for a good result last weekend, but unfortunately, he went down. We all hope he can do better this week and also that the weather will be a bit more kind for everybody and dry. Last weekend has been very difficult with the heat. To celebrate the five weeks summer break, we’ll have a party on Saturday in our WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team hospitality and welcome the paddock. Thereby, we will obviously also keep in mind to continue to push for the race on Sunday.”

“Round 11 in Assen is of course my home race. We are looking forward to have our riders and the entire team around at home. I hope that the crowd is coming in big numbers as well! It was very nice in Sachsenring to see that people are coming back and that they want to see the show. That helps everybody, the sport in general and obviously also the sponsors. The TT Circuit in Assen is normally very crowded. Hopefully the weather is with us and so far it looks pretty good. I’m definitely looking forward to the home round!”
