Home-Coming for WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team in Malaysia

Home-Coming for WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team in Malaysia

Cal Crutchlow and Darryn Binder head to Sepang and aim to repeat their good performance from last weekend.

The Sepang International Circuit is station 19 of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship calendar and at the same time the home round for parts of the WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team, including Founder and Team Principal Razlan Razali. Therefore, anticipation is high ahead of this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.

Darryn Binder delivered a strong performance last time out in Australia. At his favorite circuit, he managed to improve with each session throughout the weekend and eventually keep up the pace of his team mate to finish in P14, which was the third race of this rookie season that he could score points in. The South African did a lot of laps at the Sepang International Circuit at pre-season testing this year and therefore feels well prepared for this weekend.

At the same time, Cal Crutchlow did a decent Australian Grand Prix just a few days ago. Although he struggled in the beginning of the race, he managed to catch up a lot and eventually collected three points in P13. The Brit knows the Malaysian track in and out and is eager to deliver another good result for the WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team and Yamaha at the same time.

Round 19 starts this Friday with Free Practice one at 10:50 local time (04:50 CET), followed by the second practice session at 15:05 local time (11:05 CET):

“After the Phillip Island weekend, where we managed to gain some points again, I hope for a good weekend in Malaysia, which is the team’s home race. I know the Sepang International Circuit well, with 12 years racing in MotoGP, we’ve done quite a lot laps around there. It’s not a circuit, that I really go well at, but I think we can have a good result. I’ll try my best for the team and for Yamaha. So, I look forward going there, seeing all the people who’ll come there. It’s going to be a big hit after three years away, so I look forward of get going there on Friday.”

“I’m happy how things have ended in Australia and now I’m looking forward to the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, a track where I’ve done quite some laps during testing at the beginning of the year. So, I’m hoping to keep the ball rolling there. Other than that, it’s also the home race for my team, so I’ll try to get another good result there.”

We are always very happy to come there, as we’ve been testing at the Sepang International Circuit a lot. With the results from Phillip Island, we look even more forward to see what we are able to do there. Hopefully it stays dry during the race.”
