WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team Faces Huge Challenge in Silverstone

Darryn Binder and Andrea Dovizioso to start British Grand Prix from the eighth row of the grid.

It was a sunny, but very tricky Saturday back from the summer break for the WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team in Great Britain. Although both, Darryn Binder and Andrea Dovizioso managed to improve their lap times from Friday, they ran into traffic during Qualifying to conclude Saturday in some challenging positions.

Although premier class rookie Binder lowered his lap time from Friday by 0.889 seconds during Free Practice three, he was still trying to find his way closer to the rest of the ultra-competitive field. In the process, he unfortunately registered a second crash of the weekend in FP4, but was back in action for Qualifying. In this all-important session he managed to break the 2:00 minutes barrier for the first time to reach a personal fastest time of 1:59.931 minutes, but still will have to line up in P23 tomorrow.

On the other side of the garage, Andrea Dovizioso did a 1:59.240 in Free Practice three this morning and was even on his way to further improve, when he got stuck in traffic on track. Yet he climbed up from P19 on Friday to P17 overall. Unluckily, he couldn’t reach this time again in Qualifying, which would have brought him into the middle of the mix. Instead he ran into traffic again on his attempts to register a faster lap and therefore had to settle for P14 in Q1, which means he’ll have to roll up the field from the back come race time tomorrow at 13:00 local time (14:00 CET).

“I feel like I made a step forward from yesterday. Every session I’ve gone like a second quicker. Unfortunately, I feel like I’m just one session behind after messing up yesterday in FP2 and I’m paying the price now with missing some time on track. But session by session, I’m feeling better, getting faster, getting closer to the front and slowly but surely feeling better. Qualifying wasn’t great, but at least I’m still improving, finding the way and I’m ready for the race tomorrow.”

“In the afternoon, we worked for the race with used tyres, so it was a good practice to understand a bit the last half part of the race. In Qualifying I couldn’t do any good lap, there was a big confusion on track and I didn’t manage to be smooth enough. I’m very disappointed about that, because it was very important to gain some positions on the grid, but anyway, at this track you can overtake, the race is pretty long and our pace is quite ok, so I hope I will be able to make up some places at the beginning of the race straight away in order to improve my position.”
