WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team Starts Sunny Italian Grand Prix

Andrea Dovizioso was back on home soil today, while Darryn Binder enjoyed riding at Mugello.

It was a sunny start into the home Grand Prix for Andrea Dovizioso and WithU, the title sponsor of the WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team today at the picturesque Mugello circuit, which is a fans’ favorite. Throughout Friday, temperatures have been rising around the 5.2-kilometer track, making life tough for men and material.

The eighth round of the MotoGP World Championship 2022 is a special one for Dovizioso, who is returning to a circuit which bears many good memories for him. Unfortunately, day one didn’t reflect his own expectations. Yet, he managed to improve his lap time from Free Practice one to Free Practice two by nearly half a second, but ended up in P22.

On the other side, MotoGP rookie Darryn Binder tried his Yamaha YZR-M1 for the first time in Mugello and was amazed from the morning. The South African went 1.223 seconds faster in FP2 compared to FP1 this morning, getting a lot closer to the top and showing how much he enjoys the big bike here.

Both, Dovizioso and Binder already have some ideas on how to improve in Free Practice three tomorrow morning at 09:55 local time ahead of Free Practice four and the all-important Qualifying sessions on Saturday afternoon.

“Overall, today has been a difficult Friday, but we tried something that might help us. Tomorrow we’ll double check again. The gap to the front is still big, but we will see if we can improve a little bit, also by comparing our data to the ones of the other Yamaha riders. On Saturday we definitely aim to make a step in the right direction.”

“It’s really cool to be able to ride the MotoGP bike around Mugello. It’s such an insane track, the straight is super fast. I really, really enjoyed riding here today. This morning, I started off pretty decently and I feel like I made a step in FP2, being a lot closer to the other guys. I now have quite a good feeling for the end of this Friday. I know in which direction we need to work tomorrow and I’m really excited to get FP3 underway and just keep improving and keep enjoying riding here in Mugello.”
