Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team Start Moto2 Journey at Qatar GP

Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team's Manuel Gonzales and Keminth Kubo are thrilled to start their Moto2 World Championship debut year at the Grand Prix of Qatar this weekend.

The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team are beyond excited to start the Moto2 World Championship under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit this coming weekend. Riders Manuel Gonzales and Keminth Kubo will also make their official debut at the Grand Prix of Qatar.

Manuel had a strong start to the pre-season testing and is keen to keep working on his feeling with the bike this weekend.

Kubo made good steps during the winter tests and is aiming to keep the momentum going during his first race in Doha.

Built on the outskirts of Doha, the Losail International Circuit was added to the MotoGP calendar in 2004 and became the first and only circuit in MotoGP to host a night-time Grand Prix four years later. The track's flowing midsection and its mix of medium and high-speed corners (six left and ten right turns) add to the exciting racing. However, the track is best known for its iconic over a kilometre long main straight followed by a steep first corner – a combination that offers plenty of overtakes.

As the Grand Prix of Qatar is the only night race of the year, the schedule of the upcoming race weekend differs slightly from the usual. The Moto2 FP1 session will take place on Friday afternoon from 12:45 - 13:25, local track time (GMT+3) followed by FP2 from 17:05 - 17:45. On Saturday, FP3 will be held from 12:20 - 13:00 and the qualifying sessions from 16:25 - 17:05. On Sunday, the warm-up is held from 13:20 - 13:30 and the race starts at 16:20.

We are now in Qatar, and I think that the team is very happy to start the season, because the spirit in our team is amazing. We are doing a job that we love, so naturally we are all looking forward to the first GP weekend. It’s an important moment for us: it’s the first test to see what our level is like. But there’s not too much pressure. We are keeping our expectations realistic and our feet on the ground. First we need to understand what our level is, and then we can start improving things. I think the race in Qatar will be an important and exciting beginning for Yamaha, VR46, and for our team. We have two good and young riders, and we will do the best we can.

It’s the first race of the season. I’m so happy to have this opportunity with this team. I’m really enthusiastic. It will be the best race weekend of my life, because it’s the first time I’m officially in a Moto2 team. I will try to enjoy myself and learn as much as I can and continue working like we did in Portimao. I don’t have any expectations about my position, but I’ll just try to do my best. I’m happy to finally start. It will be a long season!

I’m so excited to start the season in Qatar! I’m so happy that finally it’s time to race. I’ll do my best, even if I know it won’t be easy because the track is new and I’m still a rookie. But I’m sure I will learn a lot, and I will have fun.
