Östlund Ends MX2 Season On A High Note
A lively nineteenth and final round of the FIM MX2 World Championship saw Alvin Ostlund sign off a challenging 2017 season, at the MXGP of Pays de Montbéliard - France, with a top-ten finish.
Kemea Yamaha Official MX2's Alvin Östlund was the sole GP runner in the opening MX2 race after his teammate Brent Van doninck fell on the first-lap and twisted his knee. The Belgian, Van doninck - who finished seventh-place in the Qualifying Race yesterday - immediately withdrew from the race and the Grand Prix in order to make tracks toward Belgium where he will see his doctor on Monday morning.
Östlund got off to an exciting top-five start after the first gate-drop before a small crash dropped him outside of the top-ten. A quick remount put him back in eleventh where he tried hard to find his flow on the extremely wet and rutty hills of Villars-sous-Ecot. With the track being a technical test of line selection and throttle control, the Swede did his best to redeem himself. He put in a few solid laps and managed to cross the finish line in a satisfying ninth-place.
Determined to end his season on a positive note, Östlund took his YZ250F to the line for one last hoorah. He had hopes of wrapping up the Grand Prix of Pays de Montbéliard with a top-ten finish and started right on track when he got off to a decent start, in tenth. Line choice was of the essence with the track being one of the sloppiest and trickiest of the year, and despite the terrain not being his favourite he said he felt good on his way to thirteenth place in Race 2, which saw him round out the top ten.
With the MXGP of Pays de Montbéliard being the final round of the 2017 MX2 World Championship, Kemea Yamaha Official MX2 will hold onto the highs of the season; Benoit Paturel's 9 top-five finishes, 3 podium finishes and 1 Grand Prix win before he split his liver in a training accident with three rounds to go. Despite missing the final three rounds, the talented Frenchman finished fifth in the MX2 Championship Classification. Brent Van doninck finished tenth overall with the highlight of his season being his podium appearance at the MXGP of Europe, in April. Alvin Östlund finished the season in fourteenth overall after an unlucky crash at the MXGP of Argentina put him out of action for one-month. He will race for Team Sweden at the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin, Winchester, England on the weekend of October 1st.

"I felt quite good on this track. I made a few mistakes that cost me some good results, but I felt pretty good on the bike this weekend considering this track is not the sort of track I like. This was the last race of the season so I am already looking forward to the Motocross of Nations in two-weeks."
