Benistant Third & Coldenhoff Fourth in Qualifying in Latvia

An action-packed start to the Latvian Grand Prix, round eight of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Kegums, Latvia, saw Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Glenn Coldenhoff finish fourth after a strong performance. At the same time, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2’s Thibault Benistant closed the gap in the MX2 Championship fight with a hard-fought third place finish.

In MXGP, Coldenhoff powered his YZ450FM to a top-five start and moved up the ranks to third place before ultimately finishing fourth after losing a position to championship leader Jorge Prado. At the same time, Jeremy Seewer fought back from a heavy first turn fall to finish 22nd.

In MX2, Benistant emerged from turn-one in second position and quickly took the lead after the holeshot winner Lucas Coenen fell on lap two. Despite running a fierce pace, the Frenchman ultimately finished third after an intense battle with Kay de Wolf and Roan van de Moosedijk.

Benistant's performance in Qualifying earned him 8 points, which means he will line up for the championship races tomorrow just 6-points shy of the new leader Andrea Adamo.
