Geerts Clinches MX2 Bronze Medal at Final Round

Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2's Jago Geerts clinched the MX2 bronze medal at the 18th and final round of the series in Shanghai, China. The 19-year-old Belgian may have lost the battle of the Chinese Grand Prix where he finished fourth overall, 2-points shy of the podium, but won the war in terms of the Championship Classification in which he finished third.

Geerts put in an inspiring performance in the opening race of the weekend where he emerged from turn-one in seventh position and wasted no time moving up into fourth.

He lost one position to the new vice World Champion, Thomas Olsen, early in the race but rallied hard to reclaim the position with 9-minutes left on the clock and held it to the flag.Fellow YZ250F rider, SM Action M.C. Migliori's Maxime Renaux demonstrated incredible determination as he brawled all the way to the checkered flag to finish sixth position despite feeling ill.

Everything was written on the final race of the season for Geerts with the Belgian carrying a slim 8-point advantage over Tom Vialle in the battle for third in the championship overall. The '193' got off to a blistering start onboard his YZ250F as he chased his main rival, Vialle, and Jorge Prado around turn one.

He was masterful in his approach to the fast-paced, rough and rutty soft-soil circuit for 30-minutes plus to laps to finish third in race two, which was enough for fourth overall and to secure third position in the 2019 MX2 Championship Classification.

Renaux finished seventh in the final race for sixth overall in the Chinese Grand Prix overall. The 19-year-old Frenchman was seventh in the final 2019 MX2 World Championship Classification while Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2's Ben Watson rounded out the top-10 after missing eight rounds due to injury.

After claiming the bronze medal in the FIM Women's Motocross World Championship in Turkey last weekend, Yamaha Germany's Larissa Papenmeier made a wild card appearance at the MX2 Grand Prix of China. The small statured YZ250F mounted German finished 16th in both races for 16th overall and has etched her name in the history books as the best placed female rider at an MX2 Grand Prix.

Position: 4th MX2 Grand Prix Overall, 3rd MX2 Championship Classification

It was a pretty good day for me. Even though I was fighting for third in the championship I didn't feel any more nervous than normal, so that was nice. I had two solid starts and came home in fourth and third, which was enough to keep third place in the championship, and for fourth overall for the Grand Prix. So, it was a solid day and I am happy with the result.
