Jago Geerts was again the sole representative for the team this weekend with teammate Ben Watson still recovering from a broken hand. The 19-year-old Belgian had a tough start to the weekend where he qualified 14th after another rider hit his back-wheel on the opening lap of the Qualifying Race, which caused him to crash.
14th pick of the gate on a track like Loket that has a 180-degree first corner was destined to be difficult. Nonetheless, Geerts managed to make the best from the cards he was dealt and still managed to place his YZ250F inside the top-ten at turn-one in both races.
The very slick and square edged surface of the hilly Loket track was tricky to navigate, with traction scarce and smooth lines difficult to find. Geerts got off to a decent start in the opening race of the weekend.
He worked hard to power his YZ250F pass Iker Larranager for seventh position. Seventh position became fifth when he inherited two positions after two riders crashed out of a battle for second position, and despite a small mistake of his own in the latter stages, he was able to finish fifth. The second and final race of the weekend started identically.
The '193' crossed the line in eighth positon on Lap-1 and had to work hard to move forwards. Close lap-times made passing difficult and with the riders so evenly matched, but the talented youngster still found a way to secure a sixth-place finish for fifth overall. Geerts has moved back into third-position in the MX2 Championship Standings. He now carries an 11-point advantage over the rider in fourth into his home Grand Prix in Lommel, Belgium, next weekend, August 4th.
