At the same time, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP's Glenn Coldenhoff managed to clinch seventh after starting on the cusp of the top ten.
In MX2, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team was back to business as usual at the German Grand Prix with the return of Jago Geerts and Rick Elzinga from injury. Thibault Benistant got off to a great start, powering his YZ250FM to the front of the field on the opening lap. However, after leading the first four laps, the Frenchman lost the top spot to Roan Van de Moosedijk on lap five and eventually finished fifth after a fall in a rutty left-hander on lap eight.
At the same time, the return of Elzinga and Geerts was a welcome boost for Yamaha and the team. Both riders showed impressive heart and determination as they tackled the extremely rough and rutty clay based circuit. After completing the opening lap in seventh, Elzinga pushed hard to sustain the pace and ended up ninth, while Geerts, still nursing his healing wrist, managed to secure 13th place.
