Solid Opening Day in Qatar for Yamaha WorldSBK Riders

It proved a solid opening day in Qatar for Yamaha's WorldSBK racers, with four of the five R1's finishing inside the top-ten. It was Pata Yamaha WorldSBK with Rizla rider Michael van der Mark who led the way, with the 26-year-old Dutchman ending the day fifth on combined times. Alex Lowes finished two places further back in seventh, but just two-tenths off the time of his teammate. GRT Yamaha Supported WorldSBK rider Sandro Cortese was ninth and Ten Kate Yamaha Supported WorldSBK rider Loris Baz rounded out the top-ten.

Pata Yamaha with Rizla WorldSBK riders, Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark, both have their sights set firmly on third place in the 2019 FIM Superbike World Championship standings, as they head to the final race of the season at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar this weekend. The Qatar race will also mark the end of an era, as WorldSBK race 2 on Saturday evening will be Marco Melandri's final competitive appearance ahead of his retirement from racing, after an incredible career that has spanned three decades.

Pata Yamaha WorldSBK rider, Michael van der Mark, took a hard fought fourth place finish in today's WorldSBK Race 2 at Circuito San Juan Villicum in Argentina, having caught and passed yesterday's race winner, Alvaro Bautista, with just four laps of the race remaining. With Alex Lowes finishing in sixth position this afternoon, the Pata Yamaha teammates are now separated by just a single point in the championship standings, with Lowes currently holding the advantage in third place.

The Pata Yamaha WorldSBK team continued their run of positive form in today's Race 1 in Argentina, with Michael van der Mark finishing in fourth place and teammate Alex Lowes following him across the line in fifth. The result means that van der Mark moves to within three points of Lowes, as the Pata Yamaha pairing continue to dispute third place in the championship standings.

It proved a difficult opening day in Argentina for the Yamaha WorldSBK riders, who had to contend with racing on a track with little to no grip as a result of a fine layer of sand and dirt that covered the entire 4.276km length of the Circuito San Juan Villicum. Pata Yamaha WorldSBK riders, Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark, both finished inside the top ten, but it was Sandro Cortese who led the Yamaha charge, with the GRT Yamaha Supported WorldSBK rider ending the day in eighth place, having opted to run the softer option rear tyre in this afternoon's second free practice session.
