Gerloff and GRT Yamaha Back on the Podium at Donington Park

Gerloff and GRT Yamaha Back on the Podium at Donington Park

GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team’s Garrett Gerloff took his best FIM Superbike World Championship result in Race 2 from Donington Park, going from fifth on the grid to finish second and following Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK’s Toprak Razgatlıoğlu home for a Yamaha 1-2.

The GRT Yamaha team did not make any mistakes in the choice of the tyre compound and helped Garrett Gerloff to have his best day at the office since the beginning of the season. The American was immediately third in the Warm Up (1'28.089), before a smooth and risk-free Superpole Race confirmed his grid position with a fifth-place finish.

With the track completely dry for Race 2, Gerloff switched back into aggressive mode and was able to make his way into the battle for the podium, eventually managing to score his best result of the year in second. He now heads to the next round at Assen riding the wave of renewed confidence, and expects to do well at a track where he has raced very recently in MotoGP.

GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team

It feels awesome to be on the podium on the 4th of July, and it feels even better to be on it with the GRT Yamaha team, they work so hard and they have so much passion for racing. I have been trying my best to repay them and it hasn’t happened as often as I would have liked, so it feels very nice to be second, which is also my best ever result in a long race. The weekend had started so well and I was very excited; then yesterday’s race did not begin in the best of ways, but I had gotten back to third place before I threw away the podium. Therefore, today I was happy to at least maintain my position in the Superpole Race and I felt really good with the bike, but then it seemed that it would rain again in Race 2. The sky looked really dark and it was definitely coming, but it ended up working out in the best way for me. We still have more potential, but we have gotten a lot closer. Next up is Assen, where I already got some experience recently, but I know that it will feel completely different on a Superbike. At least I know where to go left and where to go right, and I am happy to race there on these bikes, which I’m more comfortable riding.
