Gerloff Just Outside Top 10, Nozane Gradually Improving on Saturday at Magny-Cours

Gerloff Just Outside Top 10, Nozane Gradually Improving on Saturday at Magny-Cours

Throughout the second day at the Magny-Cours circuit, the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team continued to make progress, with both riders improving their fastest times but, at the end of Race 1, the results ended up not matching their expectations.

The good work done yesterday allowed Garrett Gerloff to immediately set the third fastest time in Free Practice 3, with a 1'36.709. In the Tissot Superpole, he was not able to replicate the same performance and his 1'36.926 only gave him 12th on the grid. His race was consistent but Gerloff could not storm through the field as he usually does, having lost a couple of positions at the start, the American soon recovered but could not join the battle of the group of riders in front of him and had to settle for an 11th-place finish.

Kohta Nozane’s day, instead, was similar to yesterday when it comes to the results but the Japanese continued improving his pace throughout all sessions. In FP3 he was 19th (1'39.539) but already faster than yesterday. He then made massive progress in the Superpole, in which he qualified 18th, 1.5s faster than in the morning (1'37.997). In the race, though, his pace was still not quick enough to allow him to get closer to his teammate and to the points, and Nozane crossed the finish line in 17th place.

The morning began in a really positive way, it was nice to be inside the top-three and the bike felt good. It was unfortunate that I couldn’t replicate it in the Superpole, it was just a bit too difficult to extract the full potential of the qualifying tyre like I had done with the race tyre. In the race, I had an OK start, I found myself in a big group with many other fast riders and did my best to stay with them and make some overtakes, but in the end all my efforts were in vain. Still, big thanks to my team for all the support and for giving me a great bike, I just had a difficult time out there in putting it all together.

It was a very difficult day today. We really did not have a good race. On the first lap I could not gain any positions, and my race pace just wasn’t good enough. This made it difficult to keep the right mentality and ride at the best of my capabilities. Tomorrow I will click the reset button and we will work more to improve our pace. We don’t give up.
