After going fourth fastest in the Warm Up, Gerloff initially fell back at the tricky first corner from fifth on the grid in the Superpole Race, and the lack of clear overtaking spots at the Czech venue made it difficult for the American to make progress, eventually finishing in sixth place.
The situation was similar in Race 2, in which he dropped to 10th after the first few laps, and despite his Yamaha R1’s improved performance, he had to settle for an eighth place result, which consolidates his position in the championship standings. He will look to get back on the podium in the next round at Navarra, a track that he immediately liked and where he showed an impressive race pace during the recent test.
For his teammate Kohta Nozane, instead, Sunday represented a chance to get back on track with a fresh mindset, in order to try to put yesterday’s difficult Race 1 behind him. He was 18th again in the Warm Up, but his performance gradually improved throughout the day, and he was immediately able to recover to 15th in the Superpole Race.
He improved further in the afternoon’s longer event, in which his pace was at times even faster than his best lap in qualifying. In the latter stages, though, the Japanese was not able to hang on to the group of riders in front of him and crossed the finish line in 14th place. Despite it being the same result of yesterday’s Race 1, the limited number of crashes and retirements makes today’s result a more significant one.
