Yamaha Welcomes Iconic Alstare Racing to its WorldSBK Family

Yamaha Motor Europe is delighted to welcome the iconic Alstare Racing squad as a part of their racing family ahead of the 2021 FIM Superbike World Championship, in which they will run under a new name - the Alstare Yamaha WorldSBK Supported Team – and field a Yamaha R1 in incorporating the team’s famous colours for Christophe Ponsson.

With a huge amount of experience and knowledge of the sport, team manager Francis Batta elected to run Yamaha machinery for their return to WorldSBK after a long absence, with the race-winning Yamaha R1 demonstrating that it’s a competitive and affordable option for new and returning customer teams.

The Alstare Yamaha team, which collaborated closely with Gil Motorsport Yamaha for this entry, will receive technical support from Yamaha, while Jean-Christophe Ponsson remains an integral part of the team’s management.

So far, the team has enjoyed a positive pre-season, having tested at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and MotorLand Aragón, as they gear up their preparations for the season opener in Aragón (21-23 May).

Andrea Dosoli

Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing Manager

We are very excited to have a team, with a huge amount of pedigree like Alstare Racing, elect to go for Yamaha on their return to World Superbikes. This partnership is a perfect fit for our racing philosophy, which is to provide competitive bikes at a competitive price for competitive teams. Francis and his team know what it takes to be successful in this championship and they have a bike that has already proven its capabilities, with many victories and podiums last year. We look forward to beginning this journey together.
