Christophe Ponsson returned to the FIM Superbike World Championship grid in 2021 after wildcard appearances throughout 2020.  The Frenchman enjoyed his best result of ninth in the Barcelona Superpole Race, and continues with the GIL Motorsport Yamaha WorldSBK Team in 2022.

Born in Lyon, Ponsson has been around the WorldSBK paddock since making his European Superstock 600 debut back in 2011. In his maiden campaign, he scored a best finish of 10th at Portimao and stayed on for a second season, where the 25-year-old was a consistent top 15 finisher.

Ponsson stepped up to the European Superstock 1000 series in 2013, taking a best finish of 10th, this time at Silverstone, and scored eight top 15 results in his 10 appearances.

After a year in British Superbikes, Ponsson debuted in WorldSBK in 2015 and scored a first point on his maiden race weekend at Phillip Island. He would take a best result of 11th at the Qatar finale, before returning to the European Superstock 1000 championship in 2016.

In 2018, he made a one-off MotoGP appearance, standing in for the injured Tito Rabat in Misano, and the following year he came second in the Spanish Superbike championship.

2020 saw Ponsson return to WorldSBK, where he recorded a best finish of 12th in Jerez, and the Frenchman returned full-time in 2021. He was ninth in the Barcelona SPRC, while his best feature race result came at Portimao, where he was 10th.
