Caricasulo Steals Pole for WorldSSP Title Showdown

Caricasulo Steals Pole for WorldSSP Title Showdown

The three contenders for the 2019 Supersport World Championship crown will start tomorrow's title showdown from the front row of the grid, with Bardahl Yamaha's Federico Caricasulo narrowly beating teammate Randy Krummenacher and GMT94 Yamaha's Jules Cluzel to pole position in a closely contested Superpole qualifying session in Qatar today.

Krummenacher goes into the final WorldSSP race of the season with a slender eight-point lead over his teammate Caricasulo in the championship standings, but both head into tomorrow's 15-lap encounter determined to emerge as the 2019 Supersport World Champion, so fireworks can be expected!

Cluzel must overcome a 22-point deficit tomorrow if he is to deny the Bardahl Yamaha riders the title and claim the crown for himself. It's a big ask of the GMT94 Yamaha rider, but he can count on the support of his teammate, Corentin Perolari, who qualified in fourth position today. The Frenchman will also be looking for compatriot Lucas Mahias to be in the mix, hopefully positioning himself between Cluzel and the two Bardahl Yamaha riders.

Kallio Racing Yamaha's Isaac Viñales could also play a big part in deciding the championship tomorrow. The Spaniard, who qualified in eighth position today, has finished on the podium at the last two rounds and would like nothing more than to make it a hat trick with which to close out the season tomorrow.

Whatever the final outcome, tomorrow's WorldSSP race promises to be a thriller, in a season that has seen spectators enthralled by races that invariably go down to the last corner never mind the last lap!
