Champion Aegerter Blasts Clear on Aragón Friday

Reigning WorldSSP champion Dominique Aegerter picked up where he left off, dominating the opening practice sessions of the 2022 season at Motorland Aragón on his Ten Kate Yamaha R6.

The Swiss rider’s commanding performance saw him end the day with a quickest lap of 1’53.407, placing him half a second clear of his rivals. Former Moto2 rider Lorenzo Baldassarri made it two Yamahas in the top three, while bLUcU graduate Unai Orradre completed the day in 23rd position.

Aegerter enjoyed a perfect start to his 2022 campaign, topping Friday’s timesheets as action commenced in Aragón. After firing an early warning to his rivals with the fastest time in the first of two practice sessions, the 31-year-old continued to lead the field as he went fastest in free practice two, finishing half a second clear of the chasing pack on the combined classification ahead of the Pirelli Aragon Round.

Lorenzo Baldassarri also had a promising opening day, the class-rookie made a fast start aboard his Evan Bros Yamaha, finishing the opening 45-minute session in second place before bettering his time by two-tenths in free practice two to end the day third overall.

A solid Friday for GMT 94’s Jules Cluzel made it three Yamahas inside the top six while Marcel Brenner and Patrick Hobelsberger completed the top ten.

Spaniard Unai Orradre endured difficult opening day of World Supersport action. The 2021 Junior Supersport rider continued to adapt to his R6 and put his MS Racing Yamaha in 23rd place with further time to find ahead of tomorrow’s action.

World Supersport continues Saturday with Superpole at 10:25 before lights go out for the opening race of the season at 15:15 local time.
