Stefano Manzi Takes Fourth Win of the Season in Style at Portimão

Ten Kate Racing Yamaha’s Stefano Manzi proved that although his slim title chances were halted yesterday with the crowning of Nicolo Bulega, he still has plenty of drive and determination to achieve victories. He won Round 11 of the FIM WorldSSP Championship in style after a great fight, and simultaneously secured second place in the standings.

The second race of the penultimate round of the season offered up plenty of excitement as Manzi went into battle with his season-long rival Bulega, as well as Yari Montella. The Yamaha-mounted Italian made it clear from the start that he wasn’t willing to give up the chance of a fourth victory this season, and he managed just that after pushing on to keep the gap to the front small, and making great moves to take the lead time and time again. The R6 rider crossed the finish line just 0.084 in front and was thrilled to bring his team another success.

Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team) was the next best Yamaha in sixth, getting the better of Jorge Navarro (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) after the Spaniard slipped down the order following a poor start. Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) achieved another positive finish in ninth. Unfortunately, a recent run of great form came to end for Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) after a technical issue put him out of the race on Lap 9.

Stefano Manzi

It was a fantastic race. The three of us on the front row made a great start and then our rhythm in the race was very high. Unlike yesterday, this time I was able to close the gap and battle with the two other riders. When I was leading I felt that I was fast enough to win. At the end we had a great fight on the last lap and I managed to win. I hope to enjoy the two races in Jerez in the same way and finish the year well. I am quite happy to have secured second place in the World Championship but of course not 100% happy as our goal this year was to win the title. Anyway, we had a great season and finished on the podium many times, so we have to be happy with that.
