Lucas Mahias

The 2017 season saw 28-year-old French rider Lucas Mahias crowned the FIM Supersport World Champion after an incredible ear that saw him take two race wins and record further six podiums in just 12 races to clinch the title in a dramatic decider in Qatar. Mahias was no stranger to the WorldSBK paddock, having filled in for the injured Florian Marino in STK1000 for three races in 2016, incredibly winning two of them and finishing on the podium in the other to end the year in fourth overall despite not taking part in the other five races. He also completed three races in WorldSSP in 2015, recording one podium, before winning the title incredibly in his first full season in the class two years later and the winner of the 2016 FIM Endurance World Champion Rider's title returns in 2018 to defend his crown onboard the Yamaha YZF-R6.
