Front Row for Verdoïa in Rain Disrupted WorldSSP300 Superpole
BCD Yamaha MS Racing rider, Andy Verdoïa, will start tomorrow's 13-lap WorldSSP300 race from the front row of the grid, after mastering tricky conditions in the Group B Superpole session to qualify in second place. Galang Hendra Pratama will start from the middle of the second row, after qualifying his Semakin Di Depan Biblion MotoXRacing Yamaha R3 in fifth place today.
Galang Hendra secured his grid slot in a dry Group A Superpole session, but the remainder of the Yamaha R3 Challenge bLU cRU riders headed out for the Group B session on wet tyres, after rain arrived at the 4.226km Misano track between the two sessions.
While Verdoïa, Galang Hendra and Jacopo Facco managed to secure automatic entry to tomorrow's WorldSSP300 race by qualifying inside the top 30, the same wasn't true of their Yamaha bLU cRU teammates Kevin Sabatucci, Beatriz Neila and Finn de Bruin, who were caught out by the changing conditions and, as a result, were forced to fight it out for the final six grid slots in this afternoon's Last Chance Race.
Neila's challenge ended early when the Spanish youngster crashed uninjured at turn six two laps into the race. De Bruin fought valiantly in the race, but was unable to close on the leading group and was disappointed to eventually finish only in 18th position.
The star of the Last Chance Race, however, was Kevin Sabatucci. The Italian youngster, who started from 22nd position on the grid, rode a stellar race, forcing his way through the field to take the lead on the penultimate lap. Despite intense pressure from a large and aggressive pursuing pack, Sabatucci managed to defend his lead to the chequered flag, securing himself a grid slot for tomorrow's main race in the process.
