bLU cRU Graduate Beatriz Neila Successfully Defends her Women’s European Cup Title

Beatriz Neila was crowned the 2021 Women’s European Cup champion, defending her title from the first edition of the series last year after finishing second at the Mugello finale.

2019 bLU cRU graduate Neila won three of the seven races in this year’s championship, in which she rode for Team Trasimeno on a GYTR-kitted Yamaha R3, with these victories securing her the title by one point from Sara Sanchez.

At Mugello, Neila qualified in third and remained in the lead battle throughout the 12-lap encounter. While her championship rival maintained a slim lead, the Spanish rider knew she just needed to take second place for the title.

She battled with Roberta Ponziani in the early stages, but the Italian fell on lap four, which saw Neila cement her second-place result, finishing 0.239s behind Sanchez and lifting the title for the second year in a row.

Beatriz Neila

I am really happy to have won the Women’s Cup for the second consecutive year. I struggled all weekend, but in the race, I managed to find a good feeling with the bike on this track which is very difficult. I stayed focused throughout the race, and I always pushed to the maximum, but I tried not to make a mistake that could have ruined everything. In the first laps I fought with the Ponziani, without losing contact with Sanchez, but then when the Ponziani crashed I just tried to keep my pace and finish in second place to secure the championship title. I have to thank everyone: the team, my family, my sponsors and all those who have been close to me in this fantastic season!
