Despite his lack of race experience at the French circuit, after an alternator issue forced him to sit out Race 1, 17-year-old WorldSSP300 rookie Diaz continued his fine form from earlier in the weekend, fighting amongst the lead group throughout the 10-lap affair. The Spaniard had started from 12th on the grid and made a strong start to move into the top 10, making no mistakes despite the worsening conditions to finish ninth.
Fellow bLU cRU rider, Yamaha MS Racing WorldSSP300 Supported Team’s Ton Kawakami, also impressed from the 10th row of the grid. The Brazilian battled his way through from 28th to finish in 14th, having made up 13 places on the first lap alone.
His Yamaha MS Racing teammate, Unai Orradre, also had to work his way through the field, starting from 34th on the grid. The 16-year-old Spanish rider made up an astonishing 18 places on the opening lap, battling on the edge of the points throughout but just missing out with a 16th-place finish.
Yesterday’s podium finisher Bahattin Sofuoğlu took a gamble on the slick tyres and it looked to have paid off in the opening stages as he fought amongst the top 10 places. However, a heavy shower at the halfway stage saw the Biblion Motoxracing Yamaha rider drop down the order and he decided to retire his R3 GYTR-kitted bike on lap seven.
