The 19-year-old Italian had qualified 16th on the gird in the morning’s Superpole session, but quickly found himself in the podium battle in the 14-lap race. Gennai headed onto the final lap in seventh, but was able to scythe his way through to cross the line in third.
Also in the podium battle were Aragón race-winner Marc Garcia and 2021 Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup podium finisher Matteo Vannucci, with the pair finishing sixth and seventh respectively.
After falling in qualifying, bLU cRU graduate Alvaro Diaz made up an incredible 18 places to finish 11th, while Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup winner and fellow Spaniard Iker Garcia Abella also managed to score points for the second time in 2022.
Fenton Seabright was in the fight for the podium alongside Gennai, Vannucci and Garcia, having qualified an impressive ninth, but the Viñales Racing Team rider fell at Turn 3 at half-race distance.
