Garcia Abella Eighth, as Yamaha go Fastest on Opening WorldSSP300 Day in Aragón

Yamaha MS Racing’s Iker Garcia Abella enjoyed a strong opening day of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship season at MotorLand Aragón, going eighth fastest, as Yamaha went quickest overall with Marc Garcia.

2021 Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup winner Garcia Abella immediately showed his pace in Free Practice 1, ending the session sixth fastest on a 2’07.323. That was good enough for eighth by the end of the day, with the Spanish youngster unable to improve his time in the warmer afternoon session.

Fellow Cup graduate Humberto Maier was ninth quickest in the morning, finishing the day in 16th overall. The Brazilian was two positions ahead of British youngster Fenton Seabright, who found a big step forward between FP1 and FP2, placing 14th in the afternoon session.

2017 WorldSSP300 champion Garcia set the pace for the day, ahead of bLU cRU graduate Alvaro Diaz, with Ton Kawakami also going strong in fourth.

Tomorrow, the WorldSSP300 riders will be back in action for the Superpole session at 09:45 (CET), before Race 1 gets underway at 12:40.
