The 2017 WorldSSP300 champion had qualified a strong second on the grid, and although he dropped back at the start of the race, Garcia was back to the front by the second lap. As the race settled in, he and Kawasaki rider Samuel Di Sora began to pull away from the rest of the field, trading places out front in an all-out duel for the win.
In the end, the 22-year-old timed it perfectly, slipstreaming through on the run to the line to take victory, and with it the championship lead.
Starting ninth on the grid, bLU cRU graduate Alvaro Diaz battled for the final spot on the podium all race long, eventually finishing sixth, with Italy’s Matteo Vannucci just 0.311s behind in eighth.
The WorldSSP300 riders will be back in action once again tomorrow at 15:15 (local time, GMT+1) for Race 2, following a final 15-minute Warm Up at 09:50.
