Gennai Jubilant After Return to WorldSSP300 Podium

Mirko Gennai (Team BrCorse) fought it out to make an emotional return to the podium in Race 2 at Magny-Cours on Sunday after a run of tricky races in recent weeks.

The drama started early in the race, when Saturday podium sitter and title contender Matteo Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) had a huge moment on Lap 3 and ran into the gravel before crashing. A disappointing blow for the quick young Italian. Meanwhile, Gennai had managed to slot himself into the all-important but constantly fluctuating lead group. Gennai dropped down in the battle a few times, but he kept his head down and consistently came back to the front. The 20-year-old showed the skill and determination that has put him in title contention this season, and with some clever lines he managed to come through for a great second place. After three difficult rounds where Gennai has struggled to secure a strong finish, the Team BrCorse rider was jubilant. He is now 31 points from the head of the standings.

Following his DNF, Vannucci now sits 41 points from the top, but with 100 points still left to play for the Yamaha duo are both realistically in contention.

Team BrCorse - Race 2: P2

Mirko Gennai

I’m very happy, because after three race weekends where I struggled, finally I could come back to the podium. The race was very difficult because I had some pain in my back after avoiding a crash yesterday, and after a few laps today the pain started to radiate through my left leg, but I gritted my teeth and I was able to get second. This is very important for the championship and I’m very happy, because I’ve had a bit of bad luck lately. We’ll focus on the final two rounds and give it our best shot.
