Gennai Scores Second WorldSSP300 Podium in Estoril Race 2

Gennai Scores Second WorldSSP300 Podium in Estoril Race 2

Having taken his first FIM Supersport 300 World Championship podium at Assen, Mirko Gennai was back on the rostrum in Sunday’s race at Estoril, finishing just 0.537s away from victory in third.

The 19-year-old Italian started from 13th on the grid, but fought his way into race-winning contention in the closing stages of the 12-lap contest, and the final result means he’s now already surpassed his points tally from 2021.

Starting from the front row, yesterday’s race-winner Marc Garcia was also in the battle for victory throughout the second race. The Yamaha MS Racing WorldSSP300 Supported Team rider eventually finished fifth, seeing him extend his championship lead to 13 points.

Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Cup graduate Humberto Maier enjoyed a strong outing on Sunday, as he managed his best result to date in 11th.

The WorldSSP300 riders will be back in action on 10-12 June at Misano, supporting the fourth round of the FIM Superbike World Championship.

Mirko Gennai: P3

I was very excited for Race 2, I knew I could do a good race. It’s always difficult in this category, because there are a lot of riders who can fight for the win. Third place a second time is good for me, I improve the feeling with the bike compared to last year. I really like Misano, I’m fast there. Last year, I started outside the top 30 but managed to get into the top 10, so I’m hoping to fight for the victory there this time.
