Italy’s Matteo Vannucci was the fastest man on a drying track on Saturday morning when he stormed to a second career Superpole on his R3, clocking a time over half a second faster than the rest of the field. However, when it came to the race he wasn’t so lucky, suffering a crash at Turn 5 and re-joining to finish 24th.
Maier worked his way through the field in the ever-changing race, the Brazilian was able to pick up decent points with his 5th place finish. Two other former R3 riders, Devis Bergamini and Enzo Valentim, also stayed out of trouble throughout to climb into 7th and 12th respectively following penalties from other riders.
