Matteo Vannucci Keeps Title Hopes Alive with Seventh on Saturday

Matteo Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) got his Saturday off to a strong start when he qualified in fourth place, just +0.018 from the front row. He carried this pace forward into the WorldSSP300 race, where he was running in the battle for the lead before salvaging seventh place.

Race 1 was held in ideal conditions for the WorldSSP300 riders, and the class provided the French fans with the usual close and exciting battles. Maintaining his status as the fastest Yamaha rider on the day, Vannucci got stuck into the lead group with the aim of closing his 18-point championship deficit. He was on course for a victory or a podium finish at least, but a few small errors in the closing laps saw him drop back. The Italian crossed the line in sixth but was later demoted one position, however, this keeps him in the title fight at 21 points down.

Further down the field, Ruben Bijman (Arco Motor University Team) continued his good run of form with ninth place, while Mirko Gennai (Team BrCorse) was just in the points with 14th. Brazilian Yamaha duo Enzo Valentim and Humberto Maier both suffered DNF results.

Matteo Vannucci

Today wasn’t a good race for me because several riders made contact on the last lap and I got pushed out a bit, which was disappointing, and in the end I was seventh. I’m focusing race-by-race and not thinking about the title. For tomorrow I will go with a full throttle, like I always do! Thanks a lot to my team for their work.
