Yamaha’s WorldSSP300 riders got off to a quick start in Catalunya as they took on the Barcelona circuit for the first time on Friday morning. In FP1, with the track surface still far from ideal, Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) shot into 2nd place ahead of Yamaha MS Racing/AD78 Latin America Team’s Humberto Maier, 3rd. Mirko Gennai (Team BrCorse) also continued his impressive learning curve and finished the session 10th.
The majority of the class improved their times in the warmth of the afternoon’s FP2, where Vannucci was once again the best Yamaha rider, taking 2nd overall on the day. His compatriot, Gennai upped his game to finish the day 7th , just ahead of Brazil’s hard charging team-mates, Maier and Enzo Valentim (Yamaha MS Racing/AD78 Latin America Team), who took 8th and 9th. Another big improver on Friday afternoon was Gabriele Mastroluca (Arco Motor University Team), 12th on combined.
Two more former R3 bLU cRU stars joined the field in Catalunya in the form of home rider Unai Calatayud (Arco Motor University Team) and Galang Hendra Pratama (Sublime Racing by MS Racing). They finished 13th and 15th respectively.
