Mirko Gennai Wins Sensational WorldSSP300 Race 2 in Catalunya

Mirko Gennai Wins Sensational WorldSSP300 Race 2 in Catalunya

Italy’s Mirko Gennai (Team BrCorse) emerged victorious from a thrilling WorldSSP300 race on Sunday, taking the second victory of his career and his first of the season. Gennai’s compatriot, Matteo Vannucci (AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha) finished in 2nd by a tiny margin of just 0.027 seconds.

Despite conditions being cooler yet more humid for Sunday’s Race 2, the WorldSSP300 class produced boiling hot action from the get-go in their 12-lap race. Gennai made his way through the pack over the course of the race until a stunning showdown with Vannucci in the closing stages of the race. Gennai drafted his fellow Yamaha rider, who also pushed hard throughout, to the line to take the chequered flag and his first win of the year.

Brazilian team-mates Enzo Valentim and Humbeto Maier took their Yamahas to Top 10 finishes with 7th and 8th, and Galang Hendra Pratama (Sublime Racing by MS Racing) took a great 11th place in only the second race of his season. Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse) took points in 13th.

This has been an amazing race weekend, it’s my first time getting two podiums in the same round. It feels so special to win again, especially after such a difficult race. The lead group were all very fast and I needed to keep fighting. On the last lap when I realised I was leading into the first corner I told myself I could win, and then on the last corner I was second and I just hoped and pushed to the line! In Misano I hope to do well again, but Vannucci will also be very strong there.
