Sofuoğlu Fights to Fourth in Penultimate Race of 2021 WorldSSP300 Season at Portimão

Sofuoğlu Fights to Fourth in Penultimate Race of 2021 WorldSSP300 Season at Portimão

Biblion Motoxracing Yamaha WorldSSP300 Supported Team’s Bahattin Sofuoğlu was just 0.002s away from a fifth FIM Supersport 300 World Championship podium in a row, finishing fourth in Race 1 at Portimão.

Sofuoğlu started on the front row for the third consecutive time, having qualified third in the morning’s Superpole session. Having dropped to eighth at Turn 1, the bLU cRU rider kept a level head through the early stages of the race, never losing touch with the front group.

As the field headed into the last few laps, Sofuoğlu asserted himself into winning contention, and on the final tour the Turkish youngster was battling over third position. As they headed through the long-right final corner, Sofuoğlu was running fourth, inching closer to the podium places on the run towards the line, but just missed out and held his position as the chequered flag fell.

There will be one more opportunity for Sofuoğlu to add to his 2021 trophy count, with Race 2 getting underway at 15:15 (GMT+1) tomorrow.

Bahattin Sofuoğlu: P4

It was a tough race to manage but I had a plan to attack on the final lap. I was fighting over third and in the end the front two were able to pull a small gap heading through the final turn. The wind made things difficult and in the end I was just off the podium. I am a bit disappointed but am aiming to be in the top three tomorrow to end the season.
