Third Win for Dominant Böhnke in Yamaha YXZ1000R Germany Cup
Christian Böhnke repeated his Gröningen performance of May to claim his second consecutive Yamaha YXZ1000R Cup Germany victory and third of the 2019 series at Oberheldrungen on Sunday 1st June.
Running in cooperation with the Endurace Masters Organization the fourth round of the Germany Cup was held in hot and dusty conditions at the SXS Park Oberheldrungen in Thüringen, East Germany.
The race format consisted of six twenty-minute races in both the Stock and Open categories. Böhnke was immediately quick in morning practice for the Stock vehicles, followed by Jens Albrecht and Renato Heinrich. In the Open category Thomas Ziegltrum had an issue with his transponder and was required to start the race from the back of the field.
Conditions for the race proved demanding as the ambient heat increased, and combined with the dust of the track to hamper visibility and present a real challenge to the drivers. The hard surface of the fast track at Oberheldrungen also featured high-backed corners, meaning maintaining a high speed was critical to good lap time.
At lights out Böhnke took the lead of the Stock category with his YXZ1000R and held his position in typically dominant fashion to take the chequered flag in first place. Behind him, Albrecht put his solid practice pace to into use and took an accomplished second position, his highest finish of 2019. Heinrich had a tougher time than his Stock competitors, suffering a broken driveshaft in the third race after a crash. The driveshaft was replaced before a suspension issue forced another stop on him, and he was only able to claim a solitary point.
In the final Open category race Thomas Ziegltrum found a rapid rhythm and flow, and was able to take his YXZ1000R to victory.
After four rounds of the Yamaha YXZ1000R Cup Germany the title race remains open with all drivers still in contention to win.
